CNBC'S "BUSINESS DAY" ACHIEVES RECORD QUARTERLY VIEWERSHIP. ALL CNBC BUSINESS DAY PROGRAMMING POSTS INCREASES, WITH "BUSINESS CENTER" SCORING FIRST-EVER QUARTERLY VICTORY OVER CNN'S "MONEYLINE" FORT LEE, N.J., March 28, 2000-
CNBC, the global leader in business news, posted record audience levels for Business Day viewing (M-F, 5 a.m.-7:30 p.m., ET) for the just-completed First Quarter 2000. According to Nielsen Media Research, CNBC's Business Day averaged a 0.5/375,000 households and delivered 156,000 A25-54-marking increases of 28% in HH and 41% in the key A25-54 demographic, as compared to First Quarter 1999. CNBC advanced its lead over CNN during Business Day hours for the sixth month in a row, outdelivering CNN by 24% in HH for First Quarter '00. Compared to CNBC's unprecedented Business Day growth during First Quarter '00, CNN averaged a 0.4/303,000 HH and 117,000 A25-54 from 5 a.m.-7:30 p.m.(ET), decreases of 39% in HH and 13% in A25-54, as compared to First Quarter '99. Every CNBC Business Day program experienced time period increases during First Quarter '00, including "Today's Business" (M-F, 6-7 a.m., ET) which lead the way with increases of 84% in HH and 94% in A25-54. "Squawk Box" (M-F, 7-10 a.m., ET) achieved increases of 48% in HH and 42% in A25-54, while "Business Center" also continued its steady growth, garnering increases of 23% in HH and 42% in A25-54. "Business Center" also scored its first quarterly victory over CNN's "Moneyline" since expanding to a full hour on June 21, 1999. "Business Center" outdelivered "Moneyline" by 5% in HH and 41% in A25-54, averaging a 0.4/287,000 HH and 162,000 A25-54, as compared to "Moneyline's 0.4/273,000 HH and 131,000 A25-54. Nielsen's audience universe is limited to "in-home" measurement and does not include "out-of-home" viewing in places like offices, restaurants, health clubs, hotel rooms and vacation homes where CNBC is significantly viewed. Research has shown out-of-home viewing to add 40% more CNBC viewers.
